I drew a cat for a college friend from some photos he sent me. I think it turned out okay. It was my first time attempting a real fur texture. I've drawn furry animals before, but I'd only sort of implied fur, since I used pen stippling for most of my old art. I was using felt-tip markers for the fur around the face, but the colored pencil wax kept ruining them, so I switched to ballpoint for the fur texture on the lower body, which gave it a slightly violet hue. Another friend pointed out that I was kind of lazy shading around the legs and lower body. Using photographic referenced helped to keep the proportions correct, but I was a little off on the facial symmetry since I wasn't using any measuring techniques.
